#FLASHBACK: 50 years ago today, the Ballarat Tramways Museum's tourist track officially opened, following the first tram ride on the preserved tourist route through the Lake Wendouree Gardens in December 1974. Trams formed part of Ballarat's public transport system between 1887 and 1971, with the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society working for several years to keep this piece of the city's history alive following the network's shutdown due to reduced patronage.
