Osprey vs Pelican once again. The Osprey has caught a fish and was struggling a little to get out of the water. Along comes the pesky Pelican who wants that fish. The strength it takes for an osprey to go from being neck deep in the water to take off in flight with a huge fish is absolutely incredible !! Some people ask how they are able to take off with their wings soaked & heavy from being water logged . The reason they can is ospreys have a gland located at the base of their tail that produces an oily substance that they use to coat their feathers during grooming that repels water .
