The Shona people (/ ˈʃoʊnə /) are a Bantu ethnic group native to Southern Africa, primarily living in Zimbabwe where they form the majority of the population, as well as Mozambique, South Africa, and a worldwide diaspora.

Shona is a written standard language with an orthography and grammar that was codified during the early 20th century and fixed in the 1950s.

Shona is a member of the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It is spoken by about 10.8 million people mainly in Zimbabwe, where more than 80% of the population are Shona speakers. In particular it is spoken in Harare, and in the provinces of Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Midlands and Manicaland.
