Penal Code 2084.3, which took effect on October 8, 2023 as a result of the passage of Assembly Bill 353, established that incarcerated persons shall be permitted to shower at least every other day. This rulemaking action will implement the requirements of this statute.

CDCR guarantees every inmate gets at least 3 showers a week, even if on lockdown. That is changing to guaranteed showers ever other day. You can also bird bath in your cell.

Incarcerated persons shall be permitted to shower/bathe upon assignment to a housing unit and at least every other day or more often if possible. Absent exigent circumstances, no person shall be prohibited from showering at least every other day following assignment to a housing unit.
