OU football honored Toby Keith after the third quarter of its 51-3 home win over Temple on Friday. Keith was a country music star from Clinton and a lifelong OU fan who died on Feb. 5 at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer.

“Toby Keith: American Icon,” a special that honors the memory of the country music star who died in February, airs Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. According to the network, more than two dozen performers will appear in the special to pay tribute to the late singer. The event was filmed at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on July 29.

Toby Keith will be remembered by his home state of Oklahoma and one of his favorite football teams, the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
