INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Josef Newgarden beat teammate Will Power in the finals of the Indianapolis 500 pit-stop challenge on Friday, giving the whole of Team Penske something to feel good about after a trying week leading up to “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Will Power is ready to turn the page to the 109th Indy 500, which during qualifying saw his car pulled for a modified attenuator that led to a Team Penske shakeup.

Josef Newgarden was tight-lipped about the Penske executive dismissals. Will Power, on the other hand, did not hold back.

The field for the 2025 Indianapolis 500 will be led to the green flag by rookie Robert Shwartzman. The former reserve driver in Formula 1 stunned in qualifying last week to become the rare rookie to land the pole position.

Arrow McLaren driver Pato O'Ward has been oh-so-close to winning the Indianapolis 500, and he has a prime starting spot for his sixth start. He's on the front row after qualifying at 232.098 mph on the 2.

Newgarden is scheduled to start 32nd for the May 25 race after IndyCar ruled his crew illegally modified an attenuator for fast 12 qualifying. Newgarden has 31 race wins, the most among active American drivers,
