The measles outbreak that began in the South Plains region of Texas rose to 729 cases on Tuesday, a net gain of one infection since the last update from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Last Thursday, state and local officials confirmed a measles case in Brewster County. That was the first reported case to appear in the Big Bend region since a measles outbreak began earlier this year in West Texas near the New Mexico border. The DSHS said that the case was directly linked to the ongoing outbreak.

TEXAS - Texas health officials are reporting one new case of measles tied to an outbreak in West Texas. The Department of State Health Services said on Tuesday the total cases tied to the outbreak had increased to 729. Fewer than 10 of those cases are believed to be actively infectious.
