Washington's gas tax will increase by 6 cents per gallon, continuing to go up 2% each year to account for inflation, on July 1. Fox 13 reporter Nia Wong has more information.

The tax will rise by 6 cents a gallon, the first increase in nine years for the primary revenue source sustaining Washington’s transportation system.

Lawmakers considered other ways to fund the state's megaprojects, highway maintenance and ferries, but stuck with the gas tax because of its low overhead.
