WASHINGTON—Republican senators are making a mad dash to pass the GOP tax-and-spending megabill and send it to President Trump’s desk by July 4.Senate Republicans cleared the first procedural hurdle late Saturday by a 51-49 vote.

The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate narrowly advanced President Donald Trump's, sweeping tax-cut and spending bill on Saturday, during a marathon weekend session marked by political drama, division and lengthy delays as Democrats sought to slow the legislation's path to passage.

Democrats made a late request that clerks read every page of the legislation, adding around 15 additional hours before a final vote.
