Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2 was not nominated once for this year’s Emmy Awards. The news came as a major shock, given the history of awards success for the show and its record-breaking viewer ratings. Released in December 2024, Season 2 became one of Netflix’s highest-rated releases.
Three years after making Emmy history, Squid Game has seen a dramatic reversal in awards recognition. The second season of Netflix’s global phenomenon received zero nominations at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, a stark contrast to its 2022 debut that earned six wins, including Best Actor for Lee Jung-jae.
Even though we've been told that this is the final season, I have my doubts…and even some worries for the franchise. Like most people, I loved the Emmy award-winning first season of Squid Game. While Seasons 2 and 3 didn't come anywhere near matching the storytelling of that first season, I'm still glad that we got them.
