NASHVILLE -- Drew Commesso made 36 saves in his first NHL win, and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Nashville Predators 3-0 at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday. It was Commesso's fourth NHL game and second this season. He made 19 saves in a 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday.
The Nashville Predators are playing the final leg of a seven-game road trip that extends to before the holiday break, and the lack of Edmonton scoring is the result of the second-lowest team shooting percentage (5.6%) despite generating the seventh-most expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5.
BOTTOM LINE: The Nashville Predators host the Washington Capitals in a non-conference matchup. Nashville is 11-10-2 in home games and 20-20-4 overall. The Predators are 10th in NHL play with 171 total penalties (averaging 3.9 per game).
The Predators were holding fort in the NHL’s basement, and Barry Trotz’s roster construction was coming under fire as his high-profile veterans Steven Stamkos, Ryan O’Reilly, Brady Skjei and Jonathan Marchessault, were failing to deliver wins.
The Nashville Predators and New York Islanders take the ice in NHL play at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. ET. The game airs on ESPN+. Nashville fell 6-2 on the road its last time out on Jan. 6 against the Edmonton Oilers. New York won at home in its most recent game on Jan. 6, 9-0 over the New Jersey Devils.
FanDuel Sports Network and parent company Main Street are reportedly on the verge of folding, but the Predators have backup plan for broadcasts.
The Islanders still haven’t won at Bridgestone Arena since 2017, and Thursday yielded a 2-1 shootout defeat to the Predators in a low-event match with Filip Forsberg notching the winner.
Commesso had a 36-save shutout and Connor Bedard had two assists as the Hawks beat the Predators 3-0 on Saturday.
