Mayor Karen Bass has imposed a curfew on parts of downtown Los Angeles after several days of protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, some of which turned violent. Newsweek contacted Bass for comment on Wednesday via telephone and voicemail message outside regular office hours.

The curfew in LA will run from 8 pm on Tuesday until 6 am on Wednesday and does not apply to residents living within the designated area, individuals experiencing homelessness, credentialed media, or public safety and emergency personnel.

The curfew comes amid a public dispute between President Donald Trump and California's Democratic leadership over the handling of the Los Angeles riots.
