The Israeli military said it struck targets belonging to the militant group Hezbollah in several areas of southern Lebanon on Saturday. Hezbollah is an important ally of Iran, one of several militia groups throughout the region that Tehran has supported in its long-running shadow war with the U.
Lebanon's parliamentary elections, scheduled for May and widely seen as a new test for the country's main political players, remain in limbo.
The strikes targeted Hezbollah command centers in the Baalbek area, part of eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, the Israeli military said. Hamas targeted in southern Lebanon. Separately, the Israeli military on Friday said it had also struck what it said was a Hamas command center from which militants operated in the Ain al-Hilweh area in southern Lebanon.
