SNAP deadline may be last straw for shutdown, Fetterman says
Pain from the federal government shutdown may become unbearable when SNAP benefits stop flowing to tens of millions of Americans on Nov. 1, Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman warns. Most members of his Democratic Party have dug in and demanded that Republicans restore health care subsidies before they agree to reopen government.
However, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) warned that it no longer has the funding to deliver November food benefits. Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell co-led a coalition of 22 other attorneys general and three governors in suing the Trump administration over the funding lapse, saying the funds do exist in a contingency fund.
