Sleet should accumulate around an inch, which can cause travel issues on its own, along with a glaze of freezing rain. Freezing rain begins falling in the middle of the night and will continue up until sunrise on Thursday morning.

We now expect up to five-hundredths of an inch of freezing rain over almost the southern half of Lower Michigan. This is why the NWS- Grand Rapids and the NWS- Detroit added two rows of counties to the winter weather advisory.

The National Weather Service said Hillsdale, Lenawee and Monroe counties should expect freezing rain and ice accumulations starting Wednesday.

So here’s how it probably goes: Light snow and freezing rain develop Wednesday night and continue only until mid-morning Thursday. Snowfall across the southern half of Lower Michigan will only be an inch or two. Snowfall across northern Lower Michigan will only be one to three inches.

Snow, freezing rain and ice are likely Wednesday in the Lansing area, and driving could become hazardous by Wednesday night, forecasters said.

Weather Advisories were rolled out by the National Weather Service Wednesday morning, then expanded a bit northward in an afternoon update.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday for Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, Monroe, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties.
