Luchanko looks to have made the team and in all likelihood will debut alongside Matvei Michkov on Oct. 11 in Vancouver. "I think he deserves to be with us right now," John Tortorella said.

The likelihood for Luchanko, should he make the roster, is that he'll get a handful of NHL games in for the experience, then go back to Guelph with a to-do list of things to work on over the course of the junior season to bring to camp next summer.

The primary goal this season isn’t to make the playoffs. It’s to continue building a foundation in terms of both culture and development, while keeping an eye out for ways to gather future assets in the hope they become a perennial high-seeded playoff team.
