Canada sensationally crashed out of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in the quarter-finals on Thursday, losing 2-1 to co-hosts Denmark in one of the biggest shocks in tournament history.

Canada, led by the duo of NHL superstars Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, had rolled through the tournament up until this point, suffering only a shootout loss to Finland while easily handling the field. The Canadians, however, shockingly met their match in the quarterfinals.

Nick Olesen scored with 49 seconds left and Denmark stunned Canada 2-1 at the ice hockey world championship Thursday to advance to the semifinals. Denmark had tied it with 2:17 remaining when Nikolaj Ehlers scored through traffic in only his second game at the tournament following his Winnipeg Jets being eliminated from the NHL playoffs.
