The United States has imposed new sanctions on individuals and entities facilitating the sale of Iranian oil to China, aiming to pressure Iran while navigating complex relationships with Beijing.

The Treasury sanctions are directed at more than a dozen people and companies based in China, India and the United Arab Emirates.

President Donald Trump issued a threat for Iran to be “obliterated” this week as his administration imposed sanctions on Iranian oil-affiliated groups and individuals as part of his supposed campaign of “maximum pressure” on the country.
