A fast-moving wildfire exploded to more than 8,000 acres near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic Wednesday morning, prompting mandatory evacuation orders and road closures, authorities said.

The Hughes Fire has already torched more than 5,000 acres across the mountains in the northern part of Los Angeles County. L.A. County Fire Department public information officer Sheila Kelliher tells “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” structures are in danger and more evacuations should be expected.

A brush fire near Los Angeles County's Castaic community has spread to over 5,000 acres. A mandatory evacuation order in the surrounding areas is now in place. The latest blaze to hit the county has been named the Hughes Fire and it is spreading rapidly in the region located northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Over 18 firefighting aircraft are responding to the Hughes Fire in Los Angeles County. Evacuations have been ordered, and roads have been closed. The fire exploded to nearly 3,500 acres in a couple of hours.
