And so, whether it’s to grab a deal or to bolster the security of your home setup, it does look like 2025 could be the year to buy a new Windows PC.

Recall still isn’t even available to test yet on Copilot Plus PCs, but some good old fashioned fear, uncertainty, and doubt is spreading about Microsoft supposedly secretly installing it on the latest version of Windows 11.

The more serious challenge, though, will be one of user inertia. At last count, estimates are that there remain 900 million PCs running Windows 10, of which only 400 million are not technically capable of the leap to Windows 11.

With a large number of PC users finding issues with the latest Windows 11 24H2 update, Microsoft has place a temporary hold on it for certain hardware and software configurations. The pause, as reported by BleedingComputer, was put in place because various setups are "causing crashes, performance issues, freezes or other unusual behavior."

Back in December, Microsoft announced an Extended Security Update (ESU) program for Windows 10, ensuring continued monthly security updates for PCs beyond the October 2025 end-of-service date. Now, we know how much it will cost.
