PHILADELPHIA —When the Philadelphia Flyers acquired Trevor Zegras from Anaheim in June for pennies on the dollar, it was universally viewed as a low-risk gamble by general manager Daniel Briere, who was desperate to infuse some elite-level skill onto a roster that desperately needed it.

Reality stopped the rumors on June 23: Zegras had been traded to the Flyers for Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick. Verbeek said Zegras no longer fit within the Ducks' lineup.
