Texas senators appear split in their approach to THC, as some members approved a newly revived ban on such products Wednesday and a band of Democratic senators introduced legislation that would regulate it and move to strip back criminalization.

The Texas Senate approved the second reading of a bill banning THC products on Wednesday with a 21-9 vote. The final vote will take place on Friday.

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — The Texas Senate has passed Senate Bill 5, a full ban on THC, in a 21-8 vote. The bill is very similar to SB 3 from the regular session, which Gov. Greg Abbott ultimately vetoed, saying it would not hold up in court. That version of the bill also passed 21-8.
