California Highway Patrol is testing an electric Lucid Air sedan as a potential police car, according to an online post. EV company Lucid posted images of its Air police cruiser on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the vehicle was currently being evaluated by California Highway Patrol – though details of exactly which model remain unknown.

After police departments in California found Teslas to be “nearly unusable” as EV police cruisers, Lucid is starting to eye getting in the police cruiser business. In an announcement tweet on X, the EV automaker said its Lucid Air participated in vehicle testing for California’s Highway Patrol.

Lucid hasn't provided any details on the car's powertrain, but the Air Sapphire's three-motor setup would make the electric police cruiser the world's quickest. With 1,234 hp on tap, the Sapphire will rocket to 60 mph from rest in just 1.9 seconds, pass the quarter mile in 9.0 seconds, and keep accelerating to a top speed of 205 mph.
