Verizon Communications Inc. won Federal Communications Commission approval for its $9.6 billion acquisition of Frontier Communications Parent Inc. after agreeing to agency demands to pare back diversity initiatives in line with President Donald Trump’s policies.

Verizon’s $20 billion deal to acquire the fiber internet provider Frontier is officially happening. On Friday, the Federal Communications Commission signed off on the merger, which will allow Verizon to “upgrade and expand” Frontier’s existing fiber networks.

After FCC chairman Brendan Carr said Verizon agreed to end its DEI policies, the agency approved the telco's $20 billion deal to acquire Frontier.
