President Donald Trump ordered an indefinite hiring freeze at the IRS ahead of tax season, but fears about delayed tax returns might not be warranted.

Trump’s freeze this time around is set to expire after 90 days, though agencies will first have to submit plans—in consultation with OMB and Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency—to permanently reduce their rolls through efficiencies and attrition. The Internal Revenue Service will face a longer freeze, per Trump’s order.

The site reported that Trump initiated a hiring freeze at the IRS on new jobs and rescinded any job offers for IRS employees who would have started after Feb. 8. Another executive order demanding that federal employees working from home return to the office could also force some IRS employees into early retirement, according to the site.
