Washington is seeking to facilitate increased deliveries of assistance to the Palestinian enclave after two years of war.

Preparations were also underway Sunday for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

A U.S.-led coordination center based in Israel that will oversee implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza is expected to become operational in coming days, two U.S. officials tell ABC News.

The cease-fire agreement reached last week contained stipulations for an increase of aid into the territory, where it had been sharply curtailed.
