The New York Knicks' search for a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau entered some dark moments over the past week. It was starting to look like the Knicks fired their coach without a plan, as they were repeatedly denied permission to interview other bench bosses around the league.

At first glance, both names would seem to be underwhelming given what the Knicks had, and some of the names they have already tried — and failed — to interview. They have already been denied interviews for Billy Donovan, Jason Kidd, Ime Udoka, Chris Finch and Quin Snyder.
