Capito, of Charleston, was first elected to the Senate in 2014, becoming the first woman to hold the office from West Virginia and the first Republican in the state elected to a full term as senator since 1942. Before that, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District from 2001 to 2014.
Capito kicked her campaign off with a video announcement that links her political goals closely with President Donald Trump.
