The rare winter storm that is hitting the southern portion of the United States became historic Tuesday morning when the Lake Charles National Weather Service office issued its first-ever blizzard warning.

A rare winter storm is forecast to impact southeast Texas from Monday evening through Wednesday morning, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

As Southeast Texas continues into the winter season, cold weather is likely to continue. The National Weather Service Lake Charles shows an increasing probability for a cold snap and arctic air early next week.

The National Weather Service Lake Charles states that a "very cod air mass" is moving in to the region on Sunday bringing "subfreezing temperatures."
