Home Depot will pay nearly $2 million to settle a civil enforcement claim from California district attorneys that the home improvement company was engaging in false advertising and unfair competition.

The company has to pay $1.7 million in civil penalties as well as $277,251 to cover investigation costs and “support future enforcement of consumer protection laws.” Home Depot did not admit wrongdoing,

LOS ANGELES (Gray News) - Home Depot has settled a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles County that alleged it was overcharging customers and had false advertising. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Home Depot will pay $1.9 million to settle a civil enforcement claim.

The complaint filed in San Diego Superior Court said that when people at Home Depot brought items to the check out, they would at times be charged more money than what was written

The company will pay out $1,977,251 to settle the lawsuit, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced.

The settlement stems from a civil complaint about alleged "scanner violations" brought by the District Attorney's offices of San Diego, Alameda, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Sonoma counties.
