Wildfire smoke from the Prairies has prompted a special air-quality statement over much of northern Ontario Saturday. Environment Canada says smoke from forest fires is causing reduced visibility and poor air quality that is expected to persist into Sunday for some areas.

The conditions are expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility across the region, according to a statement issued Thursday by Environment Canada.

The smoke is expected to remain over the northern and central Plains of the United States for the next couple of days, according to meteorologists.
