Texas senators appear split in their approach to THC, as some members approved a newly revived ban on such products Wednesday and a band of Democratic senators introduced legislation that would regulate it and move to strip back criminalization.

The Texas Senate approved the second reading of a bill banning THC products on Wednesday with a 21-9 vote. The final vote will take place on Friday.Just over a month ago, Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed a similar bill banning products containing THC.

The Senate’s decision signals another potential standoff with Gov. Greg Abbott, who vetoed a similar ban earlier this year as he called for more regulations instead.
