An advocate for migrant families said he believes some families are reluctant to go into a temporary shelter, because it prevents them from getting longer-term emergency housing support.

A group of about a dozen migrants, including young children, tried to spend the night at Logan Airport this week.

Some families who were at the airport said they were offered a five-day stay in overflow shelters, but declined because of the limitation on applying for longer-term placements.

Authorities on Wednesday publicly identified two men who were fatally shot last weekend in Barrio Logan. Patrol officers responding to a report of gunfire found Junior Alastre, 23, and Osnaider Silveira, 28, mortally wounded on Newton Avenue shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to San Diego police.

Two shooting victims who were killed in Barrio Logan over the weekend have been identified by authorities. A suspect has also been taken into custody.
