Dylan Sampson broke the Tennessee football record for rushing touchdowns in a season and the No. 7 Vols held off Kentucky for a 28-18 victory on Saturday night. Sampson scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter and a 6-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

The No. 7 Vols (6-1, 3-1 SEC) host Kentucky (3-5, 1-5) on Saturday (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network) at Neyland Stadium. UT has won all three meetings with UK since coach Josh Heupel was hired. Tennessee has lost to the Wildcats once in Knoxville since 1984. It won 44-6 in the lone meeting at UT under Heupel in 2022.

That wasn’t to be, of course. Tennessee’s offense began to find its footing after the break. Kentucky’s youth started to show in its depleted secondary. Vandagriff left the game with a head injury. Backup Gavin Wimsatt threw a costly interception — though Wimsatt did chase down and tackle the Vols’ Will Brooks after a 67-yard return.
