The European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell holds talks on Monday with his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul, amid growing concerns in Seoul over the dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia for its war with Ukraine.

European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Sunday he will discuss ways to advance the EU's security and defense cooperation with South Korea during his visit to Seoul.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is holding talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul amid growing concerns in Seoul regarding the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia to participate in the war in Ukraine,

"Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an existential threat. The Republic of Korea is best positioned to understand it," Josep Borrell said on X after meeting South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun.

The involvement of the DPRK military personnel in the war against Ukraine is a unilateral hostile act on the part of North Korea. It also demonstrates that Russia is not ready for a just and lasting peace,

The dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia as Moscow wages war in Ukraine highlights the need for security cooperation between the European Union and South Korea, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.

Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and the European Union's (EU) top diplomat on Monday "strongly" condemned North Korea's troop deployment to Russia as they met for talks in Seoul, the Defense Ministry said.
