The Chicago Blackhawks have hired Jeff Blashill as their next coach, the team announced on Thursday. This is Blashill's first coaching job since 2022, when he was fired by the Detroit Red Wings.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks hired Jeff Blashill on Thursday, giving him a second chance to prove himself as a head coach in the NHL. Blashill, a 51-year-old Michigan native, coached the Detroit Red Wings for seven seasons. He was let go after the team went 32-40-10 during the 2021-22 season.

Blashill, a native of Southfield, Mich., served as head coach of AHL Grand Rapids Griffins for three seasons, winning the Calder Cup championship his first year in 2012-13. Prior to that, he spent one season as an assistant coach in Detroit under Mike Babcock.
