BMW will propose this week that the European Union lower its tariff on U.S. car imports to 2.5% from 10%, in line with the current U.S. import tariff, the German automaker's CEO Oliver Zipse said on Tuesday.

BMW said in a statement that EU duties on battery electric vehicles “harm business models of globally active companies.”

Tesla and Germany’s BMW are suing the European Commission, joining a growing band of Chinese automakers to oppose the European Union on its punitive tariffs on electric vehicles.

The company is making its case at the European Court of Justice, the bloc’s highest court, on Tuesday after the regulator ruled that Google had unfairly used its dominance to make sure traffic on Android devices went to its search engine.

Google accused European Union antitrust watchdogs of blundering their way through a probe that culminated in a record €4.3 billion ($4.5 billion) fine for allegedly abusing the market power of its Android mobile-phone ecosystem.
