The historic Asheville tourist attraction has issued an update after Helene ravaged much of western North Carolina. Biltmore officials said complete impacts to the estate are still being assessed and will take some time.

Nearby Historic Biltmore Village, a walkable mixed-use community with shops, restaurants, and residences, has suffered catastrophic damage. Images show that much of the area was underwater, with downed trees, overturned vehicles, and impassable roads.

The historic landmark will be closed until Oct. 15 as the Asheville, North Carolina community recovers from the devastation of Tropical Storm Helene.

Water and wind damage were widespread at the estate and Biltmore said it tragically lost a few of its animals during the storm.
