India's BSE said it will discontinue weekly derivative contracts linked to Bankex and Sensex 50, indicating the stock exchange operator will retain only contracts linked with its benchmark BSE Sensex,

The BSE's statement said, "Weekly Index Derivatives contracts on SENSEX 50 will be discontinued with effect from November 14,2024 end of day. New weekly contracts will not be generated after the expiry of existing unexpired contracts. Existing unexpired contracts will continue till their respective expiry."

In a notification, the BSE announced that no new weekly contracts for the SENSEX 50 will be issued after the expiration of current unexpired contracts.

BSE said it will discontinue weekly derivative contracts linked to Bankex and Sensex 50, indicating the stock exchange operator will retain only contracts linked with its benchmark BSE Sensex, an index of 30 bluechip stocks.

November, BSE will no longer offer weekly index derivatives on Sensex 50 and Bankex, following SEBI’s new framework designed to reduce risk and improve market stability. Key changes include stricter monitoring and higher contract values.

SEBI announced new measures for the Futures and Options (F&O) trading. The measures have been announced in a bid to enhance investor protection. The new rules will come into effect in a graded manner beginning from November 20.
