Houston-area students plan to continue ICE protests despite threats from the TEA and Greg Abbott
Students plan to walk out Friday at high schools in Houston, Humble and Pasadena ISDs. The TEA has threatened to punish students and teachers, including districts being taken over by the state.
Mauro Henriquez, an 18-year-old Houston ISD student and team captain for his school’s soccer team, has been detained by ICE since Dec. 16 and is set to be deported along with his father, according to the federal agency.
Walkout protests have happened at over a dozen high schools this past month in the Indianapolis area, and more continue to be organized.
While about 3,000 students joined the protest last year, it's unclear how many will participate this year.
State leaders targeted Austin ISD with investigations over student-led protests against the presence and tactics of ICE.
