“ The Life of Chuck ,” a feel-good apocalyptic story starring Tom Hiddleston and directed by Mike Flanagan, took home the Toronto International Film Festival’s people’s choice award.

Mike Flanagan ’s Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, has won the People’s Choice award at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival. The science fiction drama, starring Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, follows “three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz”.

"Is it seven [minutes], I think of actual dancing?" Hiddleston tells PEOPLE of the sequence, which occurs midway through director Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's novella centered on Charles Krantz (Hiddleston), a seemingly ordinary accountant.

Based on Stephen King’s not-at-all-scary short story, the one-note movie starring Tom Hiddleston unfolds backwards in three soupy parts, and is narrated by Nick Offerman like a lumberjack Dr.

This adaptation of a Stephen King novella stars Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Hamill. “The Substance” and a Tragically Hip documentary also won.

Toronto International Film Festival was a success on many fronts, launching many titles into the marketplace looking for buyers, and others into the fall season, including the usual spate of Oscar contenders.
