According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday, China saw a record 501 million domestic tourist trips during the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, up 5.9 percent year on year. Tourist spending reached a record high of over 677 billion yuan during the period, a 7 percent year-on-year increase.

China recorded 14.37 million cross-border trips during the Spring Festival holiday, 6.3 percent more than a year earlier, official data showed on Wednesday. According to statistics released by the National Immigration Administration, China saw 958,000 cross-border trips made by foreigners during the holiday, up 22.9 percent from the previous year.

Festival holiday season, which ran from January 28 to February 4, also saw the number of moviegoers break records: 187 million people attended theaters during the holiday. The strong performance during the holiday season propelled China's total film box office in 2025 to the top of the global list,
