SpaceX Dragon fires thrusters to boost ISS orbit for the 1st time
Dragon isn't the first U.S.-built spacecraft to lend its fuel to the space station's orbit. NASA tested an ISS orbit reboost using a Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo vehicle in 2022. The data from Dragon's reboost, however, will ultimately pave the way for a catastrophic "un-boosting" of the space station's orbit.
SpaceX Dragon to give the International Space Station an altitude boost today
Friday will see a new event for the International Space Station (ISS) as a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft is used to boost its altitude for the first time. As drag works on the space station, its altitude gradually degrades over time,
SpaceX Activating System to Practice for Destroying Space Station
SpaceX is planning to fire the engines of its Dragon cargo spacecraft, which is currently docked to the International Space Station, to practice for the eventual retirement of the orbital lab roughly six years from now.
SpaceX's Dragon is about to do something to the ISS it's never done before
The data from the reboost, scheduled for Nov. 8, will help inform design for a larger Dragon to deorbit the ISS.
NASA astronauts to redock SpaceX Dragon at International Space Station: How to watch
Astronauts at the International Space Station will move a SpaceX Dragon to a new port to make way for an uncrewed spacecraft on a resupply mission.
Monumental feat: SpaceX’s Dragon lifts up International Space Station, makes it go faster
Dragon’s success eliminates US reliance on Russia for operation of the space station, should that partnership dissolve. Traditionally, Russian Soyuz spacecraft have fulfilled that reboost capability,
SpaceX’s Dragon to Reboost ISS for First Time, Paving Way for Future Deorbit Mission
SpaceX’s Dragon will reboost the ISS for the first time on Nov. 8, providing essential data for its future role in deorbiting the space station.
SpaceX Dragon prepares first ISS 'Reboost'
SpaceX’s Dragon capsule is about to play a new, important role in maintaining the International Space Station. For the first time, NASA has planned a “reboost” maneuver with a cargo Dragon capsule docked to the ISS.
SpaceX Dragon Is About to Give the ISS a Shove
As NASA continues to work with SpaceX in planning the International Space Station's eventual demise, SpaceX will on Friday aim for a big first in anticipation of that event. A Dragon cargo spacecraft will fire up its engines for 12 1/2 minutes in what's called a reboost,
