MINNEAPOLIS — The Phoenix Suns once again took down the Minnesota Timberwolves. Collin Gillespie sank two free throws with 6.3 seconds left in regulation, lifting Phoenix to a 108-105 win on Monday, Dec. 8, before a crowd of 16,046 at Target Center.
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards scored 40 points on 15-of-21 shooting but nothing he or Julius Randle (21 points, 7-of-11 shooting) did with great individual creation led to a consistent offensive flow. The team shot 11-of-42 from 3 (26%) to Phoenix’s 12-for-33 (36%).

Sometimes, you just have to find a way. It’s a sports axiom as old as the peach basket itself, but for the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night, it was the only playbook that mattered.
The Timberwolves have a better straight-up record than the Suns, and are winners of their past five games, but they’ve fallen short of being impressive in that stretch. They failed to cover in their previous three games against the Pelicans (twice) and the Clippers, two of the worst teams in the West.
Donte DiVincenzo has slid into a primary perimeter role at times, and big men Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert can shoulder added offensive responsibility in the halfcourt. The Timberwolves could also turn to available bench pieces for ball-handling and shot creation.
Minnesota is actually one spot ahead of the Suns in the current Western Conference standings, as the Wolves are two games ahead of Phoenix for the sixth seed. The Suns are one game ahead of the eight-seeded Golden State Warriors, who they'll see in back-to-back matchups on Dec. 18 and 20th.
