On Tuesday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino is the most recent Patriots coach to reportedly be out after Vrabel's hiring. The Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan also reported that Pellegrino was open to staying, but things didn't work out that way.

The Patriots will be overhauling their defensive back coaching staff under new head coach Mike Vrabel in 2025. Cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino, who has held his post since 2019, will not return to the team next season, a source told the Herald’s Andrew Callahan.

Under Covington and Jerod Mayo, the Patriots defense regressed mightily in 2024. They finished 22nd in both total defense and scoring defense, and the scoring defense mark was New England’s worst since 1995. Bill Belichick’s teams never finished lower than 17th.
