MOORHEAD, Minn. — A 34-year-old hunter was shot in the head near Moorhead on the first day of Minnesota's firearm deer season. The Clay County Sheriff's office says deputies and state troopers were called to a rural area just northeast of the Fargo-Moorhead metro area at about 8 a.m. on Saturday

According to the Clay County Sherriff’s Department, the incident happened near the area of the 4600 block of 90th Avenue N in rural Moorhead. When deputies arrived they found that a 34-year-old man from Dilworth had been shot in the head.

The Clay County and Norman County sheriff’s departments are investigating separate hunting accidents on the opening day of the firearms deer season in Minnesota. Shortly before 8 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a report of a male who was struck by gunfire while hunting near the 4600 block of 90th Avenue North,

Saturday just before sunrise marks the start of the firearm deer opener in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says overall, deer numbers are on the rise, especially in the central and southern parts of the state,
