A decision on the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons could be coming soon as the Federal Trade Commission hopes to get an injunction.

Whether a proposed merger between two of the nation’s largest grocery store retailers will happen could be decided soon, as a federal judge hears arguments from the Federal Trade Commission and Kroger Company on the company’s proposed $24.

The federal government urged a U.S. District Court judge on Tuesday to temporarily prevent a proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons, saying in closing arguments the combination would “almost certainly” benefit shareholders and not everyday shoppers.
