Hurricane Francine strengthens to Category 1 storm on way to Wednesday landfall
The hurricane center’s forecast track suggests Francine will stay on a slow north-northwest path through the morning, then turn more to the northeast and pick up speed. It will move just offshore of the Mexico and south Texas coasts today and make landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday.

As of late morning Tuesday, Francine remained at tropical storm strength with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system was located about 120 miles southeast of the mouth of the Rio Grande and was moving north-northeastward at 8 mph.
