The Northern Lights are expected to be visible in states like Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Montana, Minnesota, the northernmost part of New York and Maine may also get a chance to see the aurora borealis tonight.

F or the second time in a week, the Aurora Borealis is set to streak across the United States - with Wednesday’s showing set to be brighter and more vibrant.

Auroras are ribbons of light weaving across Earth's northern or southern polar regions, according to NASA. Magnetic storms that have been triggered by solar activity, such as solar flares or coronal mass ejections, cause them. The solar wind carries energetic charged particles from these events away from the sun.

The Northern Lights could be visible in Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont and Maine, forecasters say.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, the aurora borealis could be dimly visible among far north upper Midwest states later Friday and Saturday. The SWPC did not specify which parts of the upper Midwest are most likely to see the lights,
