The defense did not improve by leaps and bounds — “We made mistakes today, believe me,” Schiano admitted — but ultimately, the unit Rutgers poured so much energy into this week did enough to stifle Purdue in key moments, make a huge play when it mattered and play its part in the first Big Ten win of the season.

More than a week after a 19-year-old Rutgers University student was electrically shocked inside a poorly maintained fraternity house, authorities with the national fraternity have determined that hazing — and water — were involved.

A fraternity chapter at a New Jersey college has closed a week after an alleged hazing incident that left a 19-year-old student seriously injured, the national fraternity organization said Friday.
